It's been awhile since my last post...
I thought I'd include a real estate listing that I saw when looking for information on housing sales in Vonore compared to the rest of the country.  I stumbled upon this really great deal right here in Vonore!  Check it out and tell your friends who are house shopping.  Ten acres and a nice area that I have visited.  It's near the creek and lake as well as lots of hiking.
Good luck home shoppers because this one won't last long!

Progress in the Making

Greetings Fellow Vonorians...
OK, that's a new one perhaps! First of all thanks to all of those who signed the electronic and written petitions. Please do pass the word to others who also want to see this happen.
Recently, I saw an online ad from a company looking for paid customer and technical support representatives for work-from-home positions.  All you needed was a computer (up to date one), and a high speed Internet connection.  Wow, I thought this would be great for out of work folks, or retirees, or students, or people looking for part time work but who needed to be at home for whatever reason.  But there was one big obstacle: there is no high speed Internet access in this area!  How terrible I thought that a great, no-scam, job opportunity could not be taken advantage of all because the high speed Internet was not available here.  Well, I am sure other opportunities are unavailable because of this situation, but let's all hope and work toward making this situation at thing of the past.
Well, thanks again and please keep spreading the word about this petition.  We need 192 more signatures to get Comcast and TDS interested.  We can do this!

Strange Knee Jerk Reaction or something other...

I recently joined City-Data for the purposes of simply introducing myself to others in the area and bringing attention to the blog as well as the petition.  Mind you I read their policies and there is no mention about posting a link to personal blog or petition.  So to login and find a permanent ban on the account I set up was quite a surprise.  It just goes to show you how strange some people can be especially considering that site is loaded with lots of advertising.  In any case, there are bigger fish to feed (or fry if you have a seafood appetite).  Here's a screen grab I got from city-data of the ban when I logged in to check for any replies to my post.

I did a little investigating and found out that City-data receives advertising money from satellite companies, so of course it stands to reason that they would erase my posts immediately and put a "permanent" ban on my access to their site.  To the folks of city-data, did you know Google provides a way to check stats of my visitors?  Well thanks for visiting my blog.  Anyway, one insignificant web site will not stop our progress and mission.  Thanks for visiting this blog and please tell your neighbors about the blog as well as the petition.

It's Starting

News Item:
My neighbor, and long time resident of Vonore (in fact he was born and raised here), took several copies of the written petition which included links to online information, to the local Alderman (will get his name later).  My neighbor called the Alderman earlier and informed him about the petition, and it appears he has expressed interest in distributing the news.  Will keep you posted on what happens.   I also posted a few threads on nationwide message boards.  If you are reading this and you are from one of those boards, please join and say hello, especially if you are in Vonore area.

Cable & DSL Internet When Do We Want It?

The U.S. govt set aside funding for development of rural broadband for rural areas of America. Unfortunately only satellite companies have used the monies set aside for all Internet providers.  Satellite is not the best and it is expensive not to mention has usage caps similar to cell phone services.  We need 200 or more petition signatures to get cable and DSL Internet providers to install fiber optics as well use existing phone lines for high-speed Internet.  Many Vonore residents work from home, use distance learning, or are retirees and they cannot take advantage of what much of the world already has, and that is high speed Internet. Please sign so that we can get high speed Internet in Vonore, Tennessee in 2012!  Thank you.
